OneMoreBolt | Chevy II CPP Inner Fenders - Fitting the Stock Battery Tray - Part 2 @OneMoreBolt | Uploaded March 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
I started out Part 1 of this series with optimism that these parts would be a reasonably good fit at a reasonable cost. To know ones surprise (not even mine really) these CPP inner fenders did not fit worth a crap! Part one went from optimism to a day and a half of cutting, grinding, and even some welding to rework the driver side so that it would fit correctly.
Now it's time to get started on the passenger side. Seeing as I already have to cut these up to make them work I figured let's take it to the next level. One of the things none of these aftermarket fenders offer is a provision to use the factory battery tray. When I order these and went down this road I hadn't even considered what I would do with the battery and likely would have elected to relocate the battery to the spare tire well in the back of the car. However, since these already had to be cutup to even fit correctly in the car I came up with the great (or maybe crazy) idea of grafting the stock battery tray section of the factor inner fender into the new inner. This is something I've never seen done on any car with aftermarket front clip and inner fenders (not saying it hasn't, just haven't seen it), and doing this type of sheet metal work is also a first form me. But what the hell, down the rabbit hole I go.
