Colombia’s leading cartel thought they were shipping to the Italian Mafia, but it was really to undercover cops, pulling off one of the largest and most ambitious covert sting operations in years, spanning Italy, Spain, Colombia, the Balkans and the United States. Let me tell you about it.

The Mob Reporter here with an incredible but true story of a covert police operation that tricked gangsters around the world for more than a year. The brokers in the middle, between astonishing loads from the Clan del Golfo to international networks across Europe, seemed perfect. They said they had a backdoor into a major port, an efficient, discreet way to secretly slip product ashore into Trieste and whisk it away, north, south, east and west. There was only one problem. It was a set-up. A sting. A great big trap.
