Georgia-based rock band COLLECTIVE SOUL - Ed Roland (lead vocals, guitars), Dean Roland (rhythm guitar), Will Turpin (bass, backing vocals), Johnny Rabb (drums, percussion) and Jesse Triplett (lead guitar, backing vocals) have come a long way since their iconic single “Shine,” off the album “Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid” (1993), reached the top of the Billboard Album Rock Tracks for eight weeks and went on to peak at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week.
Not a band to stay idle or to live off past laurels, the quintet has climbed again to the forefront of alternative rock with the release of two magnificent albums “Blood” (2019) and most recently “Vibrating” (2022), proving they still have a penchant for churning out catchy melodies and the skills to turn them into highly satisfying and ear-worms-inducing romps. Both records are filled with an invigorating balance of driving rock, catchy pop and thoughtful songwriting, making them a collective triumph. Seeing eye to eye, and ear to ear, is part of the secret sauce of why COLLECTIVE SOUL continues to both record and play together at an uncompromising level of high quality.
COLLECTIVE SOUL is currently embarked in the last segment of their summer tour with Switchfoot, and our interviewer Scott Medina chatted with bassist Will Turpin hours before their show at Clearwater this past week, an opportunity where they talked upon a myriad of very interesting topics.
