Continuing in chapter two, we arrive at the bug ranch where the container will be taped up for sand blasting to remove the residual paint and rust. Ive then had to clean and reseal the unit for the powder coating as well as connect a long bolt in the middle as a mount for the oven rack. A second part was sand blasted for plating later. I was able to source the Coleman green colour for the powder coat and was pleased with the results.

The unit needed to be re-cleaned to removed all of the residual sand. as the lower portion assembly then commenced. The valve was fully tightened with the vice in the soft jaws, aligning properly. The metal plate that was sand blasted was prepped and nickel plated in the yard. This piece was small enough for me to do. The top portion of the lamp was too big requiring another technique for repair.

I got a hold of some high temp engine paint that cures to about 1100c. So I went back to the bug ranch with the top unit and began masking off sections for painting, as the middle did not require it. sand blasting was done, and then painted. This paint after drying requires baking at 30 minute intervals with 30 minute rests at 250, 400 and 550 degrees.

Back home the final assembly can begin as the top is aligned and lowered onto the bottom along with the plated piece. While I did try the flint starter I later opted to remove it. New #21 mantles were added and a test demo of perfect operation was conducted.

A Later video will run the lamp for 30 cycles and analyze how the high temp paint holds up.
