One afternoon I was sitting on my back porch. It was an unremarkable Saturday. The sense of freedom usually associated with a day of fewer obligations was overtaken by an unsteadiness in the atmosphere. The weather felt refreshing at times, but there were periods of high heat and little air circulation. A confusing mix.
Eventually it began to rain. A keen watcher of clouds, I had spotted the smallest of formations in the distance: One mass of clouds had a slender bit of its structure pointing downward. I didn’t think much of it, as that kind of sight isn’t unusual, but I kept my eye on it, nonetheless.
I watched as it came closer. A few minutes later, hail was falling. I momentarily lost sight of it in the tree line. Once it became visible again, I watched it leap towards the ground and begin to rotate very loosely. It moved so fast that it was gone from my sight as soon as I could perceive the rotating form. I kept waiting for tornado sirens, but they never came. I ran inside to check for weather alerts, but nothing was reported. The next day I heard about some very mild damage to a property in a neighboring county. It seems that there was a tornado, albeit a very minor one that was not impressive on radar.
Like most of us, I love watching clouds. I welcome the clouds of sunny days. I welcome the clouds of stormy days.
This song was recorded primarily with Fender Stratocasters and hardware from Universal Audio. The song was mixed and mastered in the box using plug-ins from Universal Audio and Reaper.

I have so much material on the way. I commit to improving my skills every day as a guitarist, songwriter, and recording and audio engineer. I am also devoting more time to making videos for the music. So yes, this is a journey, and I would love to take it with you! Feel free to ask me any questions about the song, influences, the recording process, or anything else that comes to mind.

I wrote this song because I really like the sound of the Avalon preamp and channel. Im not totally a gear head, but it is difficult to play, record, mix, and master music without also having some deep love for the gear you are using. In this case, the Avalon was just an inspiration that helped me find some notes that sound good together.
This song is actually one of a two-part piece. Its brother, Slip, Hop, Slide, is not inspired by the Avalon per se, but it shares the warm, laid-back feel of Strands of Avalon.

I wrote most of this song years ago, but I never knew how to piece everything together so that the song had the right movement. This was the first song written explicitly for the purpose of making guitar rock or something purely instrumental, where the guitar carries the attention for the duration of the song. Im happy to be able to stamp this one as complete! I hope you dig the grooves and feels!
