It’s nice to have another book crop up that I can heartily recommend! Montaigne was a meddled man, one cut through with all the stale traditions of yesterday and yet simultaneously singeing with buoyant new hopes of tomorrow. To read him in 2026 is to read a proper friend slashed at the pub, who is both wise and idiotic in one breath.
