Come with us as we launch a weather balloon!
#CEOAS climate science students, led by faculty member Andrea Jenney, inflate the balloon, prepare the parachute, and attach a radiosonde measuring device before letting the balloon go into the sky.
As the weather balloon floats up toward the stratosphere, it measures temperature, pressure and humidity. The data are collected in real-time, go into a public database and will be used in weather forecasts!
The effort contributes to the Atmospheric River Reconnaissance project, led by UC San Diego, which chose Oregon State as one of 15 sites across the United States and Canada to collect valuable information helping to better predict extreme weather events.
