* Clean your machine after every project—you don't want little fibers compacting in your bobbin area, etc! Plus, it affects stitch quality.
* Clean under the throat plate every 5 projects or so
1. Remove needle and presser foot (you can leave the machine on for this part so it's well-lit)
2. Disassemble/clean bobbin area
3. Clean machine bed with microfiber cloth
4. Clean needle shaft (rotate wheel to get to the whole thing)
5. Thread machine by knotting and pulling new thread through every time you change colors (prevents shredding and dust/fiber accumulation near the upper thread tension).
6. Pay attention to the way the thread twists when you're loading a new spool.
7. Turn machine off and clean the screen with a microfiber cloth that's slightly damp.
8. Make sure to put your machine back together properly (aligning all registration dots on bobbin chase, etc).
9. Consider purchasing a quality surge protector—some will even hold a charge long enough for you to save embroidery work if your power suddenly cuts out. Power surges can fry motherboards—make sure you never plug your machine directly into the wall.
