Owing more than a little to 'Topper', 'Jennifer Slept Here' (1983) finds Ann Jillian as a movie actress haunting the house where she had lived. In the 'Topper' tradition, only one person can see and hear her: Mr and Mrs Elliot's 13-year-old son (played by John P Navin Jr). Airing on Friday nights it struggled and was cancelled after 13 episodes. The summer reruns enjoyed a bit of a ratings surge, but not enough to save the show. (A few years later NBC tried another 'Topper' retread: 'Nearly Departed' lasted four episodes, but star Eric Idle did get to sing the title song.) The theme for 'Jennifer Slept Here' is by Joey Murcia, Bill Payne, Clint Holmes, and Ms Jillian, performed by Joey Scarbury (who had a hit with 'Believe It or Not' from 'Greatest American Hero'). An unmolested copy of Jennifer's end credits music has proven to be elusive.
