Cinnamon West Geyser (2023-2024)
Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano (northwestern Wyoming, USA).
Cinnamon West Geyser is a fountain-type geyser located in the Black Sand Basin of Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin. It is a moderately small, subcircular basin on the southwestern side of Cinnamon Spouter and is about 1 meter in diameter. It manifested subsequent to Cinnamon Spouter's first appearance in the late 1980s. Cinnamon West Geyser was initially a fracture but has since widened into its present shape. Its normal behavior is low to very low perpetual spouting. It also has occasional 1 to 2 meter tall geyser eruptions that occur in series, with hours- to days-long intervals between series. The first two eruptions in a series pour out large volumes of water for such a small feature. Water runs off toward the south and percolates downward into the geyserite gravel. Eruptions by Cinnamon West Geyser result in water level lowering in adjacent Cinnamon Spouter, which is a perpetual spouter.
