Chuchuyimlang village in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district hosted the Moatsü Festival 2026 on May 1 at the Anu Mai Amphitheatre, continuing its tradition of inter-tribal celebration. Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton attended as the guest of honour, while Advisor to the Chief Minister Abu Metha was the special guest. Among the performers, the Pongching Cultural Troupe from the Phom Naga community presented a special cultural showcase. The event was organized by the Chuchuyimlang Village Council in collaboration with the village tourism committee.
Moatsü is one of the most distinguished festivals of the Ao-Naga community, celebrated with deep cultural reverence and vibrant festivity. Observed annually in May after the sowing season, this spring festival was traditionally dedicated to honouring the Gods of Nature and seeking their blessings for a plentiful harvest. Characterised by folk songs, traditional dances, feasting, and spirited gatherings, Moatsü embodies joy, unity, and thanksgiving.
At Chuchuyimlang, Moatsü is celebrated every year with a strong focus on community bonding. During this time, the village renews ancestral friendships and diplomatic ties by inviting neighboring villages, including tribes beyond the Ao community. This cherished age-old tradition of inviting other tribes to join the celebrations is known as 'Ancha'. In recognition of the unique and elaborate manner in which Moatsü is celebrated, the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland, has designated Chuchuyimlang as the only “Moatsü Destination” in the state.
