Lavos | Chrono Trigger - Holiday Jazz Mix @LavosTheOneEyedTick | Uploaded December 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
Another old idea resurrected!
Apologies that I haven't been uploading as much. I've been busy with some... interesting personal projects.
It'll probably be this one-video-a-week formula for a while, but I'll try to get the EB piano mix out sometime during the week.
Anyway, I've been looking forward to making this video for a long time. Chrono Trigger, holidays, and jazz are somehow a perfect combination. It's absolutely amazing together!

0:00 - Zephyr (Sean Schafianski)
There's a trilogy of excellent Wind Scene jazz mixes perfect for the holidays - all three are in this mix! I like this one when starting out, because it sounds like a good morning on a snowy day. I usually associate good music with a particular feeling or environment, and that's what I think of when I hear this.
3:15 - Corridors of Time (Insaneintherain)
Believe it or not, Insaneintherain has 2 Corridors of Time jazz arranges. One's in my outdoors jazz mix, but this I saved for the holiday mix. And both arranges truly are a gift to us.
10:29 - Fight or Flight (Nostalvania, The OC Jazz Collective)
Chronology never gets old. Neither do remixes of the Epoch theme.
Thus, this is an amazing work of artistry. I usually associate this theme with travel or flying because, well, Epoch, but this doubles as just good holiday music.
16:35 - Singing Mountain (The Consouls)
I love Singing Mountain in all forms, but especially this one. I find this and the next song to be two songs I think of when I think of nighttime snowfall, a crackling fire inside. It's a good skill to have to feel which ideas or imagery get captured by these songs, huh?
21:29 - Wind Scene (Insaneintherain)
The second in my trilogy of awesome Wind Scene jazz remixes. I feel like this captures being inside on a snowy night very well, as stated previously. Yet Zephyr matches more closely to daytime holiday events. And finally, the third Wind Scene mix in this playlist I feel matches being outside during a snowy night, like at a city park or sidewalk. These are all very good feels to exude.
26:38 - Corridors of Time (The Consouls)
The bass and electric piano really do make for a great combo in this, huh? It's a little different than most of what we've seen so far, but different is good!
30:10 - Above The Earth (Sab Irene)
The Black Omen has never felt so good.
33:50 - How Deep Is The Ocean Palace? (Wiesty, The OC Jazz Collective)
Ah, what I consider the sequel song to the Chronology Album. It's upbeat and has a vibe perfectly fitting for holiday fun. And of course, the reference to "How Deep Is The Ocean" is very cool.
38:44 - Silent Light/Manoria Cathedral (Jazz Paladin)
I hope people listen to this and play this like around their house. I feel like part of the joy of this mix comes with hearing it not from headphones, but from real speakers while you do your holiday activities.
44:47 - Wind Scene (The Consouls)
As mentioned, I like to think of this being as a song you'd listen to on a snowy evening in the city. It sells that vibe for me right from the very start with the rhythm kicking in. Very cool stuff!
49:41 - Schala's Theme (The OneUps)
This goes HARD. I like how different it is compared to some of the other tracks on this playlist (which are primarily sax, horn and piano driven) without losing the holiday spirit. I'm really proud of how well all these tunes mesh together, yknow?
52:50 - Driftwood (Fratto, Wiesty, The OC Jazz Collective)
Ending it off with a bang. I love this one for being the most upbeat and jaunty of Chronology without losing the feel that made the rest of the album great. I really hope you like this jazz mix, I know I'll be listening to it nonstop until the holidays!
Happy Holidays!
