Time to finally break in to the Black Omen to give one hell of a beatdown to an alien lifeform.
First off, our main goal is to make it to Lavos and kindly have Robo punch its lights out for eternity. There are three ways you can go about this, two of them involving methods that don't require you to touch the Black Omen in any shape whatsoever.
The two Black Omen-less methods are to hop into the well at the End of Time that takes you directly to Lavos or to head to 1999 AD via the Epoch. If you take the Epoch route, you have a chance to just straight up bum rush the shell with Epoch, thereby bypassing the first fight, but with the downside of no save point inside or way to escape. Make sure you're well prepared if you do plan to take that route.
The third method is what I'll be doing, raising hell in the Black Omen, smacking the crazy Queen Zeal to her doom, then busting up Lavos. You can enter in via the Black Omens at 12000 BC, 600 AD, or 1000 AD. Normally you could go in the order of 1000 AD, 600 AD, and 12000 BC if you wanted to rack up multiple boss kills, but there's still no save point after the first Lavos fight like the End of Time or Epoch routes above. Might be a bug, not sure.
In any case, you do get a small bonus cutscene if you attempt to enter the Black Omen in 2300 AD. No surprise here as Queen Zeal claims Lavos has already gone and earth shattering kaboom'd up the era, thusly the Black Omen entrance here is sealed off (but still takes some damage in the form of the Laser Guards getting blown up).
Upon entering the Black Omen in any of the other three eras while making sure everyone has chaos immunity gear equipped, the queen greets you inside and goes on her usual crazy Lavos talk. The dialogue changes ever so slightly depending on what era you visit the area in, telling you how long it is until Lavos decides to rule this world.
Oh yes, she does her usual warp the hell out of dodge gimmick, but not before summoning up a boss to kick off the fun times here. It's a large mutant, the first of three in this final dungeon.
This mutant is two parts strong, the Masa Mutant & Mega Mune. If the names seem a bit familiar, it's because this hack changes the three mutant battles to be more similar to a refight with a previous boss. In this case, it's Masa & Mune before they fused on the Denadoro Mountains.
Right off the bat, the top half opens with Obstacle. Most original name I swear, but it can inflict chaos on everyone on top of the modest damage it inflicts. Heal it up because there's some strong physicals at play here. The top half's Blacken skill is extremely strong, doing over 500 damage to someone like Marle who has 151 defense. Not that my Robo & Frog have to worry as they're giant walls of hp & defense right now with the former having auto-shield on top of the highest defense score of my team right now.
Much like the original Masa & Mune fight, taking out one half kills both parts to end the battle. If you go for the top half, you'll want to use magic attacks. Physicals for the bottom half. Exotic type monster too so the Valkerye & Siren weapons can do some pretty nice damage, especially if you toss the Valkerye onto Robo and spam Uzzi Punch with the Prism Specs equipped.
After the fight, the very appropriate and awesome final dungeon music kicks in with some light combat en route to the first save point. Some enemies aren't to be taken lightly like the Goons who have quite the block of hp and strong physical attacks. Just be sure to heal to full between each fight.
More next time!
