Eight cheetah cubs were born at Cheetah Experience, South Africa in the past year. After the terrible drought a year earlier, conditions favored breeding and more matings have occurred since. Raising the population is step one of a goal of training them for a controlled release.
The cubs are monitored 24hrs a day to ensure their safety. When in captivity, they have a greater chance of survival than in the wild, where up to 90% mortality claims cubs before their adulthood. The ratio of survival is just the opposite when cared for in a controlled environment.
Enjoy the playful antics of "Alpha" the 2 month old cheetah cub who practices his hunting techniques on a raccoon... stuffed one. Toys are given to the cubs to occupy their time and learn to bite, wrestle, and relieve teething. They are supervised the entire time.
