For those squeamish over dead animals... Beware. Fact is predators eat meat and flesh and that is what is fed them.
Volunteering at Cheetah Experience in South Africa, I assisted in processing 75 severed Springbok Antelope heads. These heads were discarded and were donated by a local butchery from hunts and farming the antelope. I thought it interesting that we have Pavlov's Cheetah, like the dog, in that they salivate in anticipation of food.
Then I show you who else salivates over heads... Eden the Wonderful Cheetah. It's more of me bonding with her. This was my second encounter. She can never pass up a grooming. It's in her nature.
I was preparing her mood with me for when I spent the night in her enclosure. Amazingly, you are not only allowed to sleep at night inside their enclose, but encouraged to do so. The Cheetahs love sleeping with you; cuddling up and sharing the warmth. It helps maintain a friendly association with them and the volunteers but also serves to maintain their over all mental and physical health.
Reinforcing the bond between humans and captive Cheetahs by friendly human contact, is key to their good health. You can't give advanced medical care or transport a wild animal that is not tamed.
