Day In The Life Of Dutches. Visit to the Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary in Conroe TX, got to meet Dutches, an Alaskan Arctic White Wolf. She was my favorite and more wolf than any of the others.
The curator of the park is Jean LeFevre. A special person dedicating her life and property to the preservation of unwanted hybrid and full bred wolves. She reminded me a lot of Jean Goodall but focused on wolves. Even had the British accent :)
The story of the 'breakup' between Jean and Dutchess was one day she would not eat her food. Jean then proceeded to remove her bowl and gave it to her wolf neighbor. Dutchess observed the insult and from then on, held a grudge against Jean. It has lasted until this very day.
Dutchess refused to make up and gets up and growls at her every time she sees Jean. Jean demonstrated the behavior for me.
Lesson here is when a wolf holds a grudge, they won't let go. She liked me and was submissive the 1st time we met. You'll see the kiss she gave me; all tail tucked, squating and slinking in.
The rest of the wolves were hybrids and not as interesting as Dutchess, who they believe is 100% arctic wolf. Her behavior and attitude was markedly different from the rest of the animals, so I tend to believe it. That is what made her so interesting to me. I like the oddballs. She is just a misplaced soul from the natural world; removed from the wild.
I looked her up and happy to say she is still alive in 2015; about 14 years old. Not looking as vibrant as before but non the less admired by me.
