Cheap & Effective Water Storage for Emergencies – Tap Water + Bleach

Quick water storage tip: One of the easiest and cheapest ways to build a water supply is with 5-gallon Aqua containers (available at most big box stores or Amazon).
My Method:
• Fill with regular tap water
• Add unscented bleach per FEMA guidelines (roughly 1/8 teaspoon of 5-6% bleach per gallon — about ⅔ teaspoon for a 5-gallon jug)
• Seal tightly and store in a cool, dark place
• Rotate every 6 months
This water is great for general purpose use: flushing toilets, washing dishes, sanitation, cleaning, and bathing. It can be consumed in a pinch after proper treatment, but I treat it mainly as backup/ancillary water.
Simple, affordable, and effective. Water is one of the most important preps — don’t overlook it.
