*General Advice for Caster Gear Progression*
Look for +Levels to Spell Skills Gem at the Vendor. +Levels to Gems will provide flat damage. %increased Damage is important too but I would prioritise additional Levels to Gems over that. You can get +Levels to Spell Skills on Shields (Focus), Wands, Staffs and Amulets.
Additional Gem Levels will increase the base Mana Cost significantly. You might have to use Inspiration as a Support Gem. In my case I should have used Inspiration instead of Arcane Tempo for Doryani.
*Resistances*
For Act 1 you want Cold Resistance. In Act 2 you want Lightning Resistance for the final Act 2 Boss. If you do the "Elemental Offering" (Act 2, Buried Shrines) you can choose a Topaz/Ruby/Sapphire Ring. Vendors can also sell Resistance Rings. If you do not have enough Resistance Rings I would consider gambling for one at the Vendor (Risu at Act 2, Alva at Act 3) if you have sufficient Gold. The Act 3 Boss will cause all 3 Elemental Damage types. You can socket Glacial/Desert/Storm to get 12% Cold/Fire/Lightning Resistance.

I would switch from Chaos Spells to Minions in Act 2. I dropped the Chaos Witch Setup once I had + Minion Level on my Sceptre and Helmet.
*Minions Gear Progression*
Look for +Minion Skills Gems on Helmet and Sceptre at the vendor. The helmet mod is uncommon. +Minion Skills on Helmets start to show up at Item Lvl 5 or higher.
Its important to start looking for +1 Minion on Helmet early on. The vendor will refresh part of his inventory every time you level up. As the Item Level of a helmet goes higher it becomes more unlikely to get a +1 Minion Helmet due to more modifiers being added to the pool.
For Sceptre +2 shows up at Itemlevel 18, +3 at 36. Preferably go for a Rattling Sceptre. Spirit can roll on Sceptres, Amulets and Body Armour. For your Shield %increased Chance to Block is a great affix. Additional Levels to Minion Skills can also roll on an amulet but its very unlikely that you will get such jewellery in the campaign or early mapping.

Frost Bomb and Glacial Cascade are not being used anymore once you encounter Count Geonor.

Profane Ritual requires very high Intelligence. You might not be able to equip it right away. Do not level the Gem past 9. Alternatively, you can use Siphoning Strike to generate Power Charges. Its clunkier, but you will be able to gain Power Charges during Boss fights.
Skill Gem Upgrade order is Tempest Flurry - Tempest Bell - Charged Staff
If you struggle with Mana keep Tempest Flurry at a lower Gem Level.

Herald of Thunder - Primal Armaments (Tier 2) - Longshot (Tier 2)
Ghost Dance (after the 2nd Spirit Quest)
You can use Wind Dancer for More Evasion Rating instead of Herald of Thunder if you want more defence then clear.
*Gear Progression*
You want to check the vendor for quarterstaffs with Increased Physical Damage and/or Adds to Physical/Lightning/Cold/Fire Damage. You can salvage weapons with quality to get Blacksmith Whetstones which can be used to improve the quality of your weapon. What I didnt mention in the video as I wasnt aware of that at the time is that to salvage items you need to finish the Quest Find Renlys Tools (Ogham Village) if you havent done that on a previous character.
At level 16 you can get a Crackling Quarterstaff that has some base flat Lightning Damage and will probably be better than your previous staff. Use your Transmutation Orbs on quarterstaffs that you find off the ground if you do not have a decent quarterstaff. If you find a decent quarterstaff in Act 2-3 I would consider socketing a Lightning Damage or Cold Damage Rune (Storm or Glacial). You can socket Cold Damage if you do not otherwise have any cold damage sources. That will allow you to inflict a Cold Ailment onto the Tempest Bell which will convert some of its Physical Damage to Cold Damage. This allows you now to freeze enemies. You could also socket a increased Physical Damage rune if your quarterstaff has a very high base Physical Damage. You can also get flat damage on rings and gloves.

*Defence*
A body armour with high Evasion will help especially in the Dreadnought zone and at the end of Act 3. Once you have Ghost Shrouds in Act 3 you want to get a little bit of Energy Shield. Ideally, you will have 5% of your total Evasion Rating as ES. 50-60% Evade chance is a good value to go for.
In the first zone of Act 3 you can get a Lesser Jewelers Orb from the Orok Campfire.

Now has an Attack Damage of 68-150% at Gem levels 5-20 (previously 78-172%). Now accumulates a missile every 0.75 seconds at all Gem levels (previously 1-0.8 seconds at Gem levels 5-20), and now accumulates up to 10 additional missiles (previously 12). Quality now provides 0-40% more Freeze Buildup (previously Delay between missile accumulation is 0 to -0.2 seconds shorter).

*Gear Progression*
Vendor checks for decent bows (%inc Physical Damage, flat Lightning, flat Physical) are pretty important. At 28 you can get the Dualstring Bow which allows you to drop Scattershot support. Pick up all Dualstring Bows no matter what rarity. I would use Blacksmith Whetstones, Artificers Orbs & Storm Runes that I have gathered so far to craft a decent Dualstring Bow. For example a Dualstring with decent flat Lightning/flat Physical are worth investing your currency into. I would continue using that bow until the next tier of Dualstring which is Twin Bow (level 55) unless you get a very good bow before that then I would consider adding Scattershot and using that bow. You can also get flat damage on your gloves, quiver and rings. The next bow base to aim for would be Gemini at 78.
Once you get the Reforge Bench I would also use that to reforge failed crafts.
