Whenever I'm bored, I just play random Picross puzzles on my computer. I came up with this remix after listening to the Chai Kingdom remix present in the Super Mario Land soundtrack CD on loop. I would have drawn Hong Meiling on the thumbnail art, but since jiangshi are a central enemy in the Chai Kingdom, I felt that Yoshika Miyako would be a better fit. I changed things up by giving her a longer qun (skirt) and making it pleated.
I originally planned to release it last month, but the release of the demo of Shining Shattering Sky ~ Reverie of Breaking Unreality got in the way and delayed it until today. I'm very happy for it to be out. Not to mention, the majority of PC-98 remixes I'll be doing this month and the next will be from Mario games, because next month will mark forty years since the release of Super Mario Bros. in Japan. I was born way too late to play it at release, but many of us players who came in at a later time got to experience it through the Virtual Console and Nintendo Switch Online. For me, I got to experience Super Mario Land through the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.
