Cessna Restoration #18 FIRST FLIGHT!!!!
Finally finished - well sort of... the major mechanical work is complete on this Cessna 172B restoration project. There is still a lot of work to do on cosmetic improvements, and some small parts replacements that aren't critical but should be done as part of regular maintenance.
For everyone who will ask about the weight and balance - we ended up with an empty weight of 1316 lbs, with a max take off weight (gross weight) of 2200 lbs for this aircraft. That gives us a useable load of 884lbs; so with full fuel we can put 650 lbs in C-FMVU.
Not to bad... which brings us to weight and balance in general for small GA aircraft. Over the 6-7 months I was working in Chris' shop, I looked at the weight and balance sheet of every Cessna 172 that passed through. I would say (in my non aircraft mechanic opinion) that every one of the weights was pure fantasy BS. I think most pilots / owners would be shocked if they ever actually put their plane on scales; they'd find out that the empty weight of their plane was actually 150-250 lbs heavier than listed in the logbook...
