Kaplan Center for Integrative Medicine | Central Sensitization Syndrome (CSS) - Part 2 - What is CSS? @KaplanCenter | Uploaded October 2012 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
Central Sensitization Syndrome (CSS) is a new concept that provides a central nervous system link between fibromyalgia, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, and potentially other chronic pain conditions. The co-occurrence of psychiatric conditions with chronic complaints results in an exponentially high rate of treatment failure and requires a different, more comprehensive strategy for effective treatment. This lecture will discuss the neurophysiologic and neuroendocrine pathways involved in CSS as well as the multitude of potential etiologies. A comprehensive treatment approach for improved outcomes in this challenging patient population will be discussed.
