This is a first of a two-part series covering memory expansions for the Casio VX-4 pokecon. The VX_4 was an educational market version of the FX-870P sold only in Japan. In this video we will replace the internal 8K SRAM with a 32K part taking the VX-4 up to the spec of the FX-870P. We’ll cover the parts swap and how to properly reset the computer and then use an originally undocumented self-test feature to check the RAM upgrade.
In the second part we’ll build a Casio RP-33 32K RAM upgrade module clone and also cover the design process. We started with a big push by a few friends and learned some about working with Zebra strips along the way.
The RP-33 design files are on my GitHub: github.com/Jeff-Birt/Casio_VX-4_RAM_Upgrade
