Casablanca Surea 56" ceiling fan in matte black. This fan was of course highlighted in my most-recent Product Spotlight as one of the latest 2024 intros from the Casablanca brand. I think it's a great look. Definitely in Minka Aire Sleek territory in terms of styling, but I like the overall proportions and feel of this execution better. I wish there were more finishes to elevate it even further, like maybe a brass motor option paired with both the white or black blades. That feels like the area where the Casablanca brand lacks some of the specific appeal these days; they're just not leaning into the finish trends as much, which at one end makes many of the products highly universal, but at the other, there just aren't a lot of options to really coordinate and tie in with an elevated finish palette. Widest mass appeal is not always what it's cracked up to be, sometimes it just leaves a product line lacking personality. Even so, some new intros really help to shake it up and this design brings something fresh to Casablanca's selection. It's a nice build, I really like their new quick-connect assembly and wiring setups, and this DC motor is absolutely stellar. Of course, I wish they would implement slower low speeds, but the overall performance of this motor is so good that it almost makes up for the speed selection. The higher range performs a lot more like an AC motor in terms of speed, and the sheer power at startup to get the blades moving fast within seconds is very impressive. Despite the little additions or things I'd personally tweak, it's a solid introduction, and I'm just happy to see anything new from the Casablanca label.
I no longer own this fan; it was gifted to family for use in a real application.
