Canada and India each expelled six diplomats on October 14, 2024, in tit-for-tat moves as part of an escalating dispute over the assassination of a Sikh activist. Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in Canada in June 2023. A senior Canadian official said Ottawa was expelling six Indian diplomats, including the high commissioner, after police uncovered evidence of continuing violent criminal activity linked to the Indian government.
