Filipino pastor Apollo Quiboloy was arrested by police on September 8, 2024, after a two-week stand-off at his church compound in the southern city of Davao. Quiboloy founded the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, which claims to have millions of members across the globe. He is wanted in the United States for the alleged sex trafficking of women ages 12 and 25 as well as been accused of faking documents for church members to obtain visas to the US. Experts and political figures say the arrest may have wide repercussions in the Philippines, where the popular preacher is considered a vital ally of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
