A Dursley man has stumbled across an old cine film, which not only captures his parents’ wedding day, but also four other couples’ big day.
Neil Cook’s mum and dad tied the knot at St George’s Church in King’s Stanley, in October 1963. The cine film was recently passed onto Neil, and he transferred it video tape. As he watched the film back, he realised his parents’ wedding wasn't the only one to be captured on the film.
Neil said: “My family lived behind what was the Red Lion Pub in King’s Stanley. The landlady at the time, Mollie Spiers, was an amateur photographer and film maker. She must have offered to film my parents’ wedding and other locals too. With film being so expensive, it was probably common to use the same roll of film for several different weddings.”
Not all the weddings were filmed at St George’s Church, but Neil has managed to track down three out of the four couples and successfully reunited them with the film. Unfortunately, the final wedding couple remains unidentified. Neil is now appealing for help tracking down the mystery bride and groom.
It’s thought that the wedding was filmed around 1963 at All Saints Church in Selsley. The video captures wedding guests making their way down the long drive to All Saints Church. Four bridesmaids walk ahead of the bride dressed in peach, and then the bride, escorted by her father. Finally, the newlyweds are seen exiting the church and getting into their wedding car.
Neil says, “I’d love to be able to reunite the wedding couple with the film. They must be in their 70s or 80s by now. All the guests look so happy and this needs to be shared and enjoyed with the couple.”
