Shelly 3.1.2 is a modern package manager built for Arch Linux and Arch-based distributions, but does it actually make managing software easier?
In this video, I'm testing Shelly on EndeavourOS to see how it compares with the package-management workflow Arch users already know. We'll install Shelly, explore its graphical interface, search for software, install packages, look at AUR integration, check out updates, and see how Shelly handles an Arch desktop where applications can come from multiple sources.
The interesting thing about Shelly isn't simply that it gives Arch Linux a graphical package manager. Shelly interacts directly with libalpm and is designed to bring native Arch packages, AUR packages, Flatpaks, and AppImages into a more unified software-management experience.
But does that actually improve Arch Linux, or are pacman and an AUR helper still all you need?
