In this video I’m flintknapping a stone fishing hook from a piece of caramel chert found along the Gulf Coast region. This is a full hand-knapping challenge where I take a raw nodule and carefully pressure flake it into a functional hook form using traditional stoneworking techniques.

The goal was to see how refined and usable I could make a hook entirely from stone. This piece really pushed the limits of control, symmetry, and durability in such a small, delicate design.

Even though I didn’t get to test it in the water this time, the process itself shows just how far ancient-style technology can be pushed with modern skill and patience.

If you enjoy flintknapping, primitive technology, or stone tool making, you’ll probably like this one.
