Caltrain is an intercity passenger service that runs between San Francisco, CA and San Jose, CA and Gilroy, CA. Within the past year, Caltrain has now electrified their line between San Francisco and San Jose, resulting in a vast majority of the Nippon Sharyo gallery coach cars and cab cars being retired from Caltrain service. Fortunately, these 49 coach cars from this train and some more Gallery cars from a later move are being shipped from the Port of Stockton to Lima, Peru where they will have a new home on a commuter railroad there! 99% of the diesel F40 locomotives are also being sent over. This cut of cars was stored in Schellville, CA for a while before finally becoming ready to be moved. The cars were coupled up to the Northwestern Pacific/SMART 1501 to be taken east. This section travelled to Lombard Yard where it would be interchanged with the California Northern Railroad. Here, the CFNR crews prepped the train and took it to their yard overnight. Then, a Union Pacific locomotive had to be sent over to Suisun, CA where it would travel down the CFNR mainline to pick up the Caltrain cars. After that, the train proceeded back to Suisun, CA where a UP crew would hop on board and take the train to Stockton, CA via the UP Martinez Sub to Sacramento, CA and then down the UP Fresno Sub to Stockton, CA. This video shows the specia; moves from Schellville to Davis. A small range by miles, but a huge move for this train. Enjoy it!
