At the end of last year we made a video profile on Benjamin Wachenje aka Bro Ben - youtu.be/WEolVqUzpUI
The family man, filmmaker, artist, musician and fitness enthusiast had so many interesting things to say and we couldn't fit them all in to the finished video.
So in the first of our new playlists #StraightTalking Bro Ben addresses tensions in the calisthenics community.

"If you get one group that's really focussed on reps and strength and endurance training, and you've got another group that's really focussed on the artistry, you know the freestyling, and it's not brought together, I think it'll fracture.
I like to see more videos where both the strength/the repping is on
display and the freestyle elements are on display. And I really don't want to see two camps build up. Where you've got one camp that's like, "I'm about my reps and I'm not feeling what those lot are doing," and another camp saying "I'm about my freestyling and repping is boring."
People are creating camps where there don't need to be camps, creating divisions where there don't need to be divisions. So I hope that doesn't happen but that's what I see happening at the moment - that team mentality. Which is good. It's good to have a team of people that you roll with but not to the point where you're not going to talk to someone else because they're in a different team. Or you're afraid to go and workout with another group because you'll be disloyal or something. No, I don't play any of that, I'll train with anyone.
As you get older you focus more on the health side. Like for me, this time around vanity wasn't enough to get me in shape. I needed to actually see people in my family breaking down through lack of exercise and losing their mobility and losing their independence. That was the extra bit that I needed to get me motivated this time around to get out and train.
So I've got a different kind of view of it. I just think we need to think, maybe we should just think, bigger about things and be happy for everybody who is working out."

![Seriously discussing PLAY with Darryl Edwards, The Fitness Explorer.
The corporate and academic recognition for his work greatly outweighs the public awareness. In my opinion The Fitness Explorer, Darryl Edwards is deserving of more flowers for his efforts as an advocate for play.
In a compelling TED talk that’s had over a million views Darryl warns, “We are blunting our ability when it comes to play, because we feel it’s only for childhood.”
And in our conversation he goes further and states, “play is an incredible metaphor for life.” We touch on play vs fitness, race, class, grief, depression, losing the love for movement and finding it again.
