I was headed home for the 4th of July and decided to railfan along the way. The drive from Davis to Bakersfield is not the best, but taking highway 99 follows the UP Fresno Subdivision all the way into Bakersfield. I caught westbound Amtrak Gold Runner 701 and a northbound UP manifest. I then decided to cut over to the BNSF side of the valley since that feeds right near my house. I'm definitely glad I did that because the action did not disappoint. I also stumbled across an eastbound BNSF manifest, the H-RICBAR1, that had BNSF 1050 on point with a BNSF dash 8 in trail, BNSF 517. BNSF 1050 is the only H1 painted dash 9 that has yellow lettering on the sides, while all the others have black lettering. I chased it into town since they were a key train and moving at 35 mph. That made it very easy to catch back up to. There are some good horn shows in here, too. The last intermodal almost blocked westbound Amtrak 703 but thankfully I went on the other side and still got a good horn show! Enjoy the action!
