The California Ramblers - as the Golden Gate Orchestra - play "Static Strut" (take B), with solos by Roy Johnston (trumpet), Jack Russin (piano), Bobby Davis (clarinet) and Abe Lincoln (trombone). Adrian Rollini provides a solid, swinging foundation on bass sax, popping out of the bass department here and there to play some marvellous little breaks.
Abe Lincoln is a really great trombone player….he should be mentioned more often.
"Static Strut" is a composition by Phil Wall, pianist and arranger with Paul Specht's band. The title reflects his interest in amateur radio, which he became involved in through his friendship with fellow Specht sideman Sylvester Ahola, who had held an amateur radio licence since 1917.
This is an acoustic recording.
