The Senate passed the #trudeau #liberal bill #c21 at a late-night sitting earlier this week before adjourning for the summer recess, meaning #c21 is in limbo until Fall, when the Senate's SECD committee will begin studying it. This gives gun owners all summer to open a dialogue with Senators, and specifically SECD members, to raise awareness of C21's litany of issues.
Additionally, rumours abound that failed Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino will be shuffled to a less prominent Cabinet posting early this summer, after fury over the moving of serial rapist and killer Paul Bernardo was moved to a less restrictive setting. This may delay the formation of CFAC; the committee that was to be reconstituted basically now in order to prepare a list of guns to ban by August 28th.
And finally, it was brought to our attention that prominent anti-gun lobbyist Heidi Rathjen (one of the coordinators of PolySeSouvient) was offered a severance package three years ago from the Quebec Ministry of Health, for work she did for the Coalition for Tobacco Control. This is unusual as she was employed as a lobbyist, directly lobbying the government, and neither she nor the Coalition for Tobacco Control held and contracts of employment with the government. In essence, the government was paying the severance of a lobbyist, who lobbied them. Where this becomes pertinent (or potentially pertinent) for gun owners is that the Montreal office of PolySeSouvient's longtime ally in anti-gun zealotry, the Coalition for Gun Control, shares an address and phone number with the offices for Montreal Public Health; a functionary of the Ministry of Public Health...
