Buzzy Feiten Recorded 'Live' at the Village Pizza - Siesta Key 1973 - Sarasota, FL. Buzz Feiten, guitar player extraordinaire and inventor of the Buzz Feiten Tuning System. I am so excited about finally finding a home for this tape that I had the privilege of recording back in the summer of 1973 of Buzzy Feiten jamming with some of the local Sarasota, FL musicians here in Sarasota, FL. The venue was a funky, relaxed, hole in wall beach bar called The Village Pizza. The Village Pizza was located in Siesta Village, Siesta Key, Sarasota, FL directly behind the legendary Beach Club for those of you who know the area. Buzzy was in town as a guest of John Lambie and Neil Larsen, and was staying at John Lambie's 'Mildew Manor' home down at the south end of Siesta Key. The first few jam sessions at the Village Pizza, Sarasota, included Neil Larsen on a Fender Rhodes piano and he and Buzzy were playing some phenomenal jazz/funk stuff that I regret I didn't get a chance to record. This was pre Larsen/Feiten Band or Full Moon and this was the beginning of that era. I actually did have my Wollensak recorder there during the Larsen/Feiten sessions but there was technical glitch that I didn't figure out until after Neil had left town. The recordings that I do have are without Neil. Buzzy was such a cool cat. He'd come into the Sarasota club, kick off his shoes , plug his jet black Gibson 335 directly into a silver face Fender Pro Reverb Amp and proceed to improvise away. I was completely enthralled and amazed at what I was hearing. I had never heard anyone play the guitar like that. Buzzy seemed to never run out of licks or ideas. His playing is so fluid and has such great sense of phrasing. I was nineteen years old at the time and sat there on the floor directly in front of Buzzy, night after night, in utter amazement and just grooved to some of the finest music that I had ever heard. Man, those were the days. I decided to run some video footage along with the audio instead of offering only a blank screen. The video, which has nothing to do with Sarasota, FL, is of my wife's family farm up in Indiana. Incidentally, the harmonica player, Sarasota, FL native Thom Doucette, is of Live At the Fillmore East, Allman Brothers Band fame. Richy Kicklighter of Sarasota, FL went on to have a very successful career as a jazz/blues guitarist. The Village Pizza, Siesta Key ended up burning down one night not long after these sessions and the fire took with it all the bands' equipment that was on stage at the time. More Later. More recordings of these Siesta Key, Sarasota, FL jam sessions to come in the near future. Enjoy.
