Block 5 of our Butterfly Sanctuary Block of the Month is here: "Metamorphosis."

This one's heavier on the layering, so we walk through the full assembly order before getting into the stitching, plus two techniques: the interlaced chain stitch on the wing and the wheat ear stitch down the butterfly's body.

The interlaced chain stitch is a chain stitch combined with a Pekinese stitch, worked with Wonder Needle™ and Eleganza™ perle cotton. You can do just one side for a lighter look or both sides for a fuller, more dimensional line. The wheat ear stitch uses a heavier number 5 thread and builds off simple straight stitches woven together down the center.
