[TW: depression] "Buried Alive: Isolation, Loss, and Chronic Illness " I've been having a very hard time with my social isolation because of my chronic illness and chronic pain; isolation because of bed rest but also the people who leave me because I'm on bed rest, leave because being around me is too hard, leave because it is too much. My depression has been triggered even further from adjusting to slowly losing ability in my arms because of hypermobility and pain, and when I've tried to get out and socialize my body and my emotional sensitivities cannot endure it. This experience has led me to create this poem that travels through the loss, grief, cabin fever, bargaining, denial, and acceptance. Being “buried alive” metaphorically refers to the feeling of being left behind, forgotten, trapped, helpless, and isolated.

[Closed Captions available, CW: visual text of q-slur at very end of video in Previous Video promo] I created The Chronic Pain Tag in hopes of increasing visibility for this invisible disability and recognizing the diversity of experiences within it. I hope anyone who watches these videos are offered some insight as to what its like to live with chronic pain and for those that do, the uplifting of our narratives and a sense of solidarity amongst those with shared experiences. For my chronic pain tag I tried to gather up all possible info about the pain I experience, but there is still stuff I managed to leave out, like how high the pain levels can get; how a flare once lasted 10 whole days, 10 whole days of being in so much pain that I couldnt move an inch, I managed to get out of bed for bathroom emergencies but the rest of my time was spend lying flat on my back, staring at the ceiling, perfectly still. Unable to turn my head to watch television, unable to sit up to eat, unable to bathe. I constantly experience a pain that feels more like muscle tension in my upper back, neck, and shoulders, but once again, didnt consider mentioning it because I dismiss it as something everyone goes through. I am also still in search for a diagnosis and treatment and the majority of my time is spend on bed rest. When someone tells you they experience chronic pain there are so many things that could mean!

READ ME Today I wanted to try and see if I could use my 23andMe results #NotSpons to find my EDS chromosome variant. I already know which one it is from formal medical diagnoses but that was an extremely lengthy and expensive process, could these DNA kits provide the same answers in a speedier and more affordable way? Were left with a maybe?
Theres a lot of information provided; although its accuracy is questionable, it did say I have EDS, but the chromosome variant they listed was off by one letter. Confusing.
To repeat what I said in the video, I wouldnt take these results as an official diagnosis of anything, a lot of the information provided is about your genetic likelihood of having certain conditions. I just hope this process can be used as a tool for people needing some back up or direction in their medical spaces. Maybe something comes up youve never heard of before and after investigation, you find that it fits! You can then bring this up to your doctor! Maybe doctors have refused to start a testing process (it happened to me) and these results could persuade them that its a possibility. I really hope this is useful for those still
with chronic illness and undiagnosed!
