The maritime and offshore sectors face unique challenges when it comes to asset integrity. Vessels are under constant threat of corrosion and structural damage. Traditional inspections of cargo holds, COTs, ballast tanks, FPSOs, and offshore platforms often require scaffolding, rope access, or sending personnel into hazardous, confined spaces. By combining Flyabilityโs specialized collision-tolerant drones with Bureau Veritasโs extensive inspection framework, the collaboration will deliver a safer, faster, and more cost-effective alternative.

One of the main drone inspections that are conducted at refineries with the Elios 3 UT is pipe and pipe rack inspections. Andre and his team now use the Elios 3 once or twice a week to inspect the pipe racks at their refinery in Louisiana. #PipeInspection #PipeRackInspection #RefineryInspection
Pipe racks can be very congested, making it hard to access with standard outdoor drones or man lifts, so Andres is now using the Elios 3 UT to reach spots you wouldnt normally be able to see from the ground or with bigger drones from above. [The Elios 3] allows you to get into those hard-to-get-to spaces. A lot of the time its just a couple of feet between the tiers of a pipe rack, and we are able to get the Elios 3 in there to inspect the underside and the top of each tier of the pipe rack, says Andre.

Andre then goes on to say that pipe rack inspections with drones are a lot faster compared to using traditional means like scaffolding or rope access. Depending on the length of the pipe rack, it may take us 10 minutes for about 50 feet (15 metres), and we can safely carry out the inspection from the ground.
