TotalEnergies have developed an innovative approach to transform the way they inspect their FPSOs, thanks to what they call the "digital inspection project". Basically, this involves the use of remote inspection technologies and a specialized digitalization process that is captured by sending drones, like the Elios 3, equipped with high-resolution cameras and LiDAR sensors into the water ballast tank, which means no man entry is required. This new process replaces traditional inspection methods like scaffolding, rope-access, and rafting. All of which can put workers in danger.
The drone then navigates the confined space according to a predefined flight path, capturing detailed video footage and building a comprehensive 3D model of the tank structure. Visual data is then reviewed by an AI program to detect any issues. This approach not only enhances safety and data quality but also delivers a 45% cost reduction compared to traditional human inspections.
