The reason I got this L-Theanine powder is to try it out with coffee and see if it has a calming, focusing effect with the coffee. I also wanted to make sure the company I was getting L-Theanine from followed some kind of standards for quality and purity, and it turns out Bulk Supplements does. They follow cGMP, or current good manufacturing practices, which are FDA regulated.
In addition, each of their supplements is third-party tested to meet quality standards.
One thing I realized is there is no serving spoon inside the L-Theanine by Bulk Supplements, so I've measured some out so you can get a good idea of what a 200 mg serving might look like. I've been taking 250 mg to 300 mg per day myself, because I read that between 200 and 500 mg seems to provide a number of benefits.
To put things in perspective regarding serving size, the green tea with the most L-theanine is matcha green tea, with 20-80 mg per cup. Traditional green tea has around 5-10 mg of L-theanine per cup. So a serving size of 250 mg of L-theanine is equal to at least the amount of L-theanine found in 3 cups of matcha tea.
I looked into the different types of L-theanine to see how the supplement was made, and there are 4 basic methods: natural extraction, fermentation, enzymatic synthesis, and chemical synthesis. The L-Theanine found in Bulk Supplements is created using the fermentation process. Fermentation produces a purer form of L-theanine than chemical synthesis.
The bottom line is, 3 people from my family have tried the Bulk Supplements l-theanine, and all of us thought it made us feel a little more relaxed.
My personal experience with L-theanine is that I've enjoyed having it for the last few weeks, and I will most likely continue to have it here and there.
I also think the L-theanine made it easier for me to focus for long periods of time while I was working, but the downside is, I think it made me less motivated to start work the longer I took it.
To sum things up, I do like the Bulk Supplements company, and I think their L-theanine powder is a quality product. I liked the overall way I've felt using the L-theanine, but I did feel a little irritable when I took it without a break for almost 2 weeks. I also felt a little more mellow than I wanted to. Since then, I've found I like to take it for about 2 days, then take a day or 2 off of it.
