In September 2004, over 1,300 people embarked on an incredible journey to Little Rock, Arkansas for a conference examining the experiences of Japanese Americans incarcerated at Jerome and Rohwer during World War II. Life Interrupted: Reunion and Remembrance in Arkansas features the stories that reflect the history and emotions of a community forged in the remote, snake-infested swamps of Arkansas more than 60 years ago.
In the summer of 2020, we talked with Nancy Araki who was one of the key people who organized this conference, and former inmate Richard Murakami, about their personal experiences in camp and their thoughts and remembrances of this special journey. They also talk about the legacy of camp and the need to continue sharing it for future generations.
