In this video, we explore organic flow batteries and build one using green tea (matcha). Here, the compound epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) serves as the electrolyte in an alkaline environment. It’s called a “flow” battery because the electrolyte is moved through a stir bar. In addition to EGCG, gallic acid and pyrogallol can also be used as electrolytes.
