I wanted to make a simple Christmas ornament this year and bought some purpleheart and pauduk to make these. I was originally going to make one, but then realized I had way too much scrap and figured I might as well make more. Then I realized that I was on a serious time crunch and it was about 20F outside and I'm terrible with a scroll saw, so these probably could have been executed better.
The gorilla glue that I used as a finish worked well-ish. It made the ornaments feel almost rubbery
My thought for these is that purpleheart, maple, and pauduk are the closest I could get (at my local dealer) to blue, white, and red; the colors of the French Flag.
Only one person that I gave one of these two wasn't shocked to receive a Christmas gift since we already planned on exchanging gifts during finals week.
