I also decided pure wall tankers like Soap and Octo also qualify as meatshields.
So yeah... making this video to sort of vent out my frustrations with the current state of the game. It's been a little while since ZL's really pulled out anything unique and the current stage design simply does not work at all with the tools Ponos has given us to beat these stages. Not every stage has to be Heinous Road level but I shouldn't be able to get away with this for every single stage. The only somewhat difficult stage here without meatshields was Tiramisu Cliffs and that one is solely due to Cala Maria.
If anyone at Ponos is reading this, listen well.
The cat units we have available have outscaled everything that could possibly be thrown at them, mostly on Bahamut's behalf. Bahamut is without question the strongest unit in the game. It's honestly so ridiculous how many stages die instantly to Bahamut being the one to initiate the base hit boss wave. It would not hurt to retroactively make Explosion (and by extension Surge) less effective by giving animated enemy bases immunity to them. It would not hurt to include more enemies that can actually fight back against Bahamut. Actually, you could even flag certain boss waves to give enemies a brief period of complete invulnerability to damage when the wave is triggered.
Uril is also a massive game design problem. He is able to deal major damage to Relic, Aku, and Behemoth enemies while inflicting nearly 100% uptime Slow and Curse against them with one of the highest HP stats in the game. Countersurge is clearly not effective at preventing Surge units from breaking stages, especially the Surge units that also have Surge Immune. If a stage is primarily Relic or Aku, chances are Uril trivializes it.
While many of the other advent units are very powerful by their own right, one sticks out like a sore thumb: Jelly Dumpling. Not even Rock, Dumpling. For YEARS, Slime has been pretty much the best peon clearing chip damage unit in the entire game. The amount of Wave Immune enemies is so insignificant that out of everything, only the Filibusters feel immediate impact from having Wave Immunity. Wave Blocker has existed for longer than Slime has. The fact that no enemies have this yet to counteract this nearly universal meta strategy is baffling to me. Damage extension abilities in general are something that small peon enemies just cannot get around, and those are the enemies that keep dumb strategies like going without meatshields in check. If the high damage peons can't reach the front, they might as well not even exist.
I would also like to say that I LOVE this game. It's by far the least predatory gacha game and definitely the best one I have ever played. It's just a little tiring to see update after update provide 0 challenge to players who are obviously well-aware of how to exploit the game's strongest units. Stages feel empty due to just how many damage extensions exist taking some of the most vital enemies away from the field. Behemoths have not appeared in Zero Legends since before Soractes. Mericless Advent bosses exist. Colossal Gauntlet bosses exist. Release the floodgates. Let your worst loose. I'm ready, and I don't think I'm alone here either.
