Winter is a magical season for the brown bears in our sanctuaries. ❄️🐻
As the temperatures drop, our on-site teams prepare everything the bears need to rest safely and comfortably through the colder months.
They enjoy:
🌲 Spacious forest areas perfect for digging their own dens.
🪵 Wooden cabins, artificial dens, and specially designed bear houses for those who can’t—or prefer not to—dig.
📝 Personalised care plans tailored to each bear’s unique needs.
🍯 A nutrient-rich autumn diet that helps them build up energy for winter.
Some bears wander out of their dens from time to time, grabbing a snack or exploring before settling back into rest mode. Others—like our youngsters Runa and Kodi—are still learning and adjusting to their winter routine, taking their time to understand this new world. 🐻
Every bear is different, and we’re here to give each one the safe, peaceful winter they deserve. 💚

Late one morning, Meimo was spotted enthusiastically digging in the den that first appeared last year in the north outdoor enclosure in Arosa Bear Sanctuary. 💪🐻
What’s he up to?
In the days that followed, Amelia made a brief visit to the den, while Sam lingered nearby, clearly intrigued but choosing not to enter. 👀🔍
And here’s where it gets even more interesting… Marmots have recently vanished from the area. Could there be a marmot burrow right next to the den? Is Meimo picking up on new scents? 💡
Or maybe he’s crafting a cozy spot to sleep? 💤
While it’s a bit early for hibernation prep—these bears usually start scouting for winter dens in late October—Meimo might just be ahead of the game. For now, though, food remains the top priority. 🍂🍎

Winter may slow the bears down at Arosa Bear Sanctuary but for the team, it’s full steam ahead! ❄️💪🐻
While bears enjoy their cosy winter dormancy, the on-site team keeps the sanctuary running every single day — from safety checks and fence inspections to admin work and endless snow clearing.
In summer, seven people run the sanctuary.
In winter? Just two part time heroes keep everything moving. 🙌❄️
A little bear update:
At the start of February, Jamila was often spotted wandering outside, looking for snow free spots. But after the latest heavy snowfall, she’s chosen the smarter option — staying warm in her den to conserve energy. 💤🤍
Guided tours are still available daily upon request. ❄️🐻✨

Two years ago, eleven lions were rescued from poor conditions that were the result of the war in Sudan and brought to their forever home at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. 🌄🦁
These brave big cats have come a long way, overcoming great trauma to find peace. 🐾
They now enjoy enrichment activities, nutritious meals tailored to their needs and expert medical care to ensure theyre able to live their best lives.
Here’s to many more years of safety, comfort and dignity for these magnificent cats, and to the onsite team whose compassion makes all the difference. ☀️

The past months, we reached out to over a 100 global fashion brands, asking them to make commitments to protecting lambs.
Why? Because 10+ million lambs suffer for wool each year. They endure a brutal mutilation where strips of skin and flesh are sliced off lambs’ bottoms— without proper pain relief. ❌
This is live lamb cutting (#mulesing), and over half of the world’s clothing wool begins with this cruelty. ✂️
We asked Michael Kors if they:
⭕have a clear policy against live lamb cutting (LLC).
⭕️label certified LLC-free wool on products.
⭕commit to excluding live-cut wool.
And Michael Kors said NOTHING, despite repeated outreach. 💤
