Totally unprepared for shooting wildlife on the S2A, but it did me proud!
As all you photographers well know, photographing wildlife well is something you really have to put time and effort in to. And of course some people dedicate their lives to nothing else. So I didn't have high expectations of the results I was going to get showing up in South Africa with none of the right kit, and very little time.
But... I got a handful of pretty decent photos! We definitely happy with a couple of the elephant ones. It helped of course that I had a driver, and that the driver was only driving me, so I could dictate the terms of our wildlife viewing - we're only stopping if the animals are literally on or next to the road. Anything more than about 20ft and I'm not going to be able to get anything useful.
Now, some of you might think that I shouldn't let taking photographs overwhelm the opportunity to see these animals. Maybe some of you will think that. Or maybe you won't. My wife is always telling me to put the camera down and just experience wherever we are. And sometimes I do. But for me, I enjoy experiencing these places with my camera. That's what we do right? I absolutely enjoy seeing these places and being there, but I enjoy it more if I can see it, be there, and come away with a handful of photos that I love.
Aaaanyway, long story short, I got a few decent ones, I think. I'd say that elephant one is a keeper.
Plus, the S2A absolutely shone. I'm SO glad I made the decision to take it with me. Totally worth the weight. Zero issues with it, focusing is on the nail, every time. Totally thrilled with it right now. Jury's still out on the snake skin, but if the camera is taking photos like that, I don't much care what it looks like!
