Despite his tender years - he was only 14 here I believe- all the hallmarks of Brian's incredible skating are here to see. Beautifully secure triple jumps, powerful stroking and of course his incredible spreadeagle. He was rewarded with the bronze medal at this, the third World Juniors and the first to be officially named as such, the 1976 and '77 events had been called the ISU Junior Championships. He also beat a certain Brian Orser in the process, 10 years before the legendary 'battle of the Brian's' in Calgary.

This has only previously been shared previously as a partial recording, so here is the complete programme including the first ever quad twist completed at a world championships. Their debut was controversial due to the profound size differene between the two and they quickly became known as a one-and-a-half pair. Their coach Stanislav Zhuk continued to pair tiny girls with fully grown men with considerable success paving teh way for the most famous of the one-and-a-half pairs, at least in their earliest days, Gordeeva & Grinkov.")
