A video posted on social media shows what looks little like brains, or translucent blobs covered in tiny white stars, at the bottom of Candlewood Lake.
But the strange masses growing on submerged branches in Candlewood Lake are neither plants nor eggs nor some newly arrived invasive species. They are colonies of tiny animals — magnificent bryozoans, or Pectinatella magnifica — and local experts say there is little reason for lakegoers to worry about them.
