Taylor Swift is widely expected to tie the knot with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce on Friday, putting a bow on both their whirlwind three-year romance and her multidecade quest for love, shared with fans through some of the defining ballads of the past 20 years.

Swifties were expected to crowd the streets outside Madison Square Garden on what was a scorching Manhattan afternoon, searching for a glimpse of their icon or one of the scores of celebrities expected to attend festivities inside the arena.

But as of 3 p.m., attendance around the venue was sparse, with the number of fans dwarfed by the sizeable contingent of police intent on keeping all passersby back from the fenced-off streets outside the stadium.
