As I cam in by Ythanside,
Where gently flows the rolling tide,
A bonnie lass passed by my side,
An her looks did me ensnare.

Oh she was a beauty bricht,
As ever trod the braes o' Gight,
I could hae spent a leelang nicht
Wi her on Ythanside.

She took me 'til her father's hame,
Sae bashfully as I gaed in,
The auldwife, she brocht ben a chair,
And forced me tae sit doun.

I sat doon the auld wife tae please,
She treated me tae breid an cheese,
An aa the bairns flocked roon ma knees,
Wisn't that a blythesome sign.

When ten o'clock began tae strick,
I up an started tae my fit,
An I bad them aa a blythe guid nicht,
On bonnie Ythanside.

When I came back twas in the Spring,
An on her finger I placed a ring,
An hame wi her I did a bring,
