Undoubtedly one of the most common questions I've been asked since Contrast and similar one-coat paints arrived on the market has been, "Can you paint British infantry with these?" To which the answer is always a slightly desperate, "Yes, but..." British battledress having such a specific, distinct colour has meant that I've held off on demonstrating a method which I think would work to get an army on the table until now.
Try mixing in a little extra Ochre Clay for French greatcoats and you can rocket through an early war French army as well!

After gluing down the rear rank, apply a layer of Vallejo Brown Earth texture paste - a long tool will be helpful here to reach between the ranks, but you can space them out enough that it shouldnt be difficult. Once dry, drybrush with Vallejo Dark Sand, then add some thinned-down PVA dots and sprinkle with flock. Ive used old-school model train flock for the brighter finish. Paint the base rim in Brown Sand, and done!")

Motorisierte Schützentruppen - literally motorized rifle troops - were the backbone of the Deutsche Demokratische Republiks ground forces in much the same way as the Motostrelki were across the Soviet Union. Though not as heavily armed as their bigger brother Russian troops, they made up for this in part with a higher concentration of machine guns in rifle squads, meaning that any assault by DDR troops would feature a true hail of lead!

THE BASE: Apply a layer of PVA and sand. Paint with thinned down Vallejo Flat Brown. Drybrush with Vallejo Dark Sand. Add tufts to taste and paint the base rim dark brown.
Layer of PVA followed by sand, painted first with thinned down Vallejo Brown Sand, then lightly drybrushed with Stone Grey before a very, very light final drybrush of Green Grey (971 - the light one). Add a few tiny dots of PVA and some static grass for a scrubby, mountainous finish.
Marine Juice MkIII/Sonic Tonic:
3 parts Reikland Fleshshade, 3 parts Army Painter Dark Tone, 4 parts Lahmian Medium - for simplicity, this is just a bottle of each. Mix well and apply liberally!

The British Starter Army for Konflikt 47 I bought myself, so Im allowed to gush. 🤪
As well as being a really neat miniature, the platoon commander with the Tesla rifle adds another Rift die to your force, which can be dead handy if you exhaust a couple at the same time and have to roll them on their return to a unit. Always worth having more options!

Its not often I get a chance to paint something fantasy-related that doesnt involve buying a huge box of miniatures where I only need one, rather than a whole army... but a 3D printer opens up a whole realm of possibilities!
The Quartermaster3D ranges of LotR-inspired miniatures are always a real treat; theyre clearly inspired by, but not slavish recreations of the heroes and villains weve seen on screen, and sometimes take more from lines of description in the books. Either way, theyre cool as hell, and painting wargs is way more fun than it should be - drybrushing is king!

When Citadels Contrast came out, I spent a couple of weeks tweaking, testing, and adjusting the ratios on a bottled mix of three different colours to get Contrast Feldgrau. It looks pretty good, but its definitely a lot more tweaking and fuss than Id prefer out of a one coat solution. Enter Vallejo Xpress Wave 2 releases - the colours I think we were all waiting for!
Are they the magic bullet? I guess that depends on how this all looks to your eye! But it certainly fits the bill for me!
